Japanese characters on computers

In order to study quizzes on this site, you need to install Japanese on your computer. How to install it, please refer the following links.

Web-based Japanese Input

You can write Japanese script even the computer has no Japanese input
software installed. All you

need is internet connection to use this page.

Put the IME on (make it blue)
and type in any romaji, and press space key. You will have a pull down menu on the web page. Select the right one and press enter key.

Even your machine OS is English Windows 98, you should be able to write Japanese script. Some pupils may have this system at home.

University of Redlands has detailed information on how to do this.

For Mac OS X:

There is nothing to do. But if you have problems, go to System Preferences and change the order of language preferences.

Just a little bit about myself. I have been teaching Japanese for last five years and I love teaching Japanese, too! However, life as a Japanese teacher have not easy so far because I used to teach six institutions around Warwickshire and now four! It is a sheer mad life and very tiring! Hope I can find a full-time position near future

DS Games to learn Hiragana

This game is designed for Japanese Elementary School students but it may help you to learn Kanji. It teaches stroke orders of Kanji as well as Hiragana. It also has a dictionary feature.

With this Dictionary, you can find the Kanji simply by writing them! So, you do not have to know how to read or stoke number to check up. Just simply imitate it and it will tell you the meaning.
