What a awesome find! I’m glad I found this….
This cafe, which I found purely by chance when I was looking for a warm meal and drink on a cold frosty winters morning in November three years ago is tucked away (behind the Nat West Bank) in Meer St which runs from Henley St directly opp Shakespeare Birthplace Trust to the American Fountain on Wood St. I am loathe to actually tell anyone about this place in case it is inundated and I can no longer get a table but as it offers excellent home cooked food;all day breakfasts;good coffee and “specials” which change daily and are written on a board on the wall I feel I owe it to the place to actually do so.Meals are all reasonably priced,good value.Orders are taken promptly,cooked to order and served with fantastic friendly service.It is usually full of locals which is always a good indicator in my book. I often use it for lunch when I am visiting RSC Theatre for matinee performances or shopping. As I live fairly locally within 30 miles I often visit Stratford throughout the year and even in the height of the tourist season there is no problem getting a table. The building has a wealth of old beams and white walls with horse racing memorabilia dotted around them.The cafe is divided into two separate rooms around a central kitchen area. An ideal spot is a window table enabling you to look out on the world as you eat, There are four tables outside on the pavement – a sop to smokers following the smoking ban legislation.
It is ideal for a coffee stop or lunch – a few minutes walk from both the RSC Courtyard Theatre/Rother St market(Fridays) in one direction and Bridge Street( main shopping centre area)andWaterside(River Avon and Canal boats)in the other and five minutes from the rail station and coach park in Greenhill/Station Road. There are also several pay and display car parks all within easy walking distance and various public transport links nearby too.Overall I can’t recommend this place enough – definitely 5 stars in anyone’s book
